Fashion’s Environmental Impact

The fashion industry has a disastrous impact on the environment. In fact, it is the second largest polluter in the world, just after the oil industry. And the environmental damage is increasing as the industry grows.

However, there are solutions and alternatives to mitigate these problems. The first step lies in building awareness and willingness to change.

Question: What parts of the fashion industry besides the clothes themselves contribute to the problem? A few thoughts I had: how much stuffing from shoes/bags goes into landfills? How much plastic is wasted on tags (sometimes an article will have 3 or 4 separate tags)? Can you think of anything else that isn’t the clothes themselves but linked to fashion that is an issue?
