Note: This presentation should be completed in pairs or groups of three
CLOS:
1. Examine power relations and the distribution of power in Canada.
2. Investigate factors that impact social stratification
3. Analyze contemporary social issues from a sociological perspective
4. Evaluate the role of social structures and social institutions, including media and
technology, in developing and maintaining sexism, racism, and heterosexism
5. Investigate population, aging, health, and environmental issues with a focus on
Indigenous people
6. Evaluate social factors and barriers to social change
7. Examine sociological perspectives and sociological knowledge in a team
environment that produces effective working relationships
For this presentation assignment, you will present the class with a social problem that
impacts Indigenous people and discuss the paths and barriers to social change.
Your group will sign up to discuss one of the following issues:
-Clean Water on Reserves
-Gas Pipeline Expansions
-Healthcare
-Aging and Chronic Disease
-Indigenous Sovereignty, Land Disputes and Land Sovereignty
-Housing in Indigenous Communities
-Truth and Reconciliation Commission on Residential Schools
-Decolonization and Climate Change
-Environment and Conservation
-Aging and Health
Alternatively, you can suggest a social problem to your professor related to
health, aging, population, or environment. Please contact your professor by Week
10 with your topic suggestion.
Your presentation will include the following:
 An introduction to the social issue, outlining the prevalence of the issue (5 minutes)
