| The theory project “PNUR124” about “the barriers the indigenous community face accessing healthcare”. The group was 4 members include Jayabalan Praveena, Arshdeep Mudhar, Tharsan Rathnarajah and Mohamed Mohamed. We started this September 16th and finished October 7, 2021. My role in the presentation is Timekeeper / SchedulerSet a time to meet using WhatsApp groups. Responsible for timekeeping during the meeting. Organize the meetingThrough this presentation, I have enjoyed working with the group and had an astonishing moment and experience.My first experience was with First Nation people. I felt like I was sightless to see their misery and their loss. I was surprised about the meaning of the First Nation “Indigenous People” The ancestors of these Indigenous People lived in the Americas long before the European arrived and controlled their land. This experience made me reflect on their past and feel sorry about their loss. The second experience was the conflict with my group. On September 23rd, 2021. I had a conflict with a group member how was not performing his duty. This affected our meeting and made everyone unhappy with the situation. I learned from that experience the meaning of teamwork, cooperation, and advocate my group. I was surprised a group member came and advised me that we are here to learn to cooperate and work together as a team. Moreover, if a group member did something wrong, you can take a different approach not frustration. I have learned from this situation that I need to improve in interprofessional communication skills. |
| After I have done the group presentation, I reflected on my work and found out that the area I need to develop is interprofessional communication. During the group work, I had a conflict with a group member due to the lack of interprofessional communication that effects my performance during the meeting. Interprofessional communication is important for teamwork success and builds trust between the team. Moreover, increase interprofessional communication important for patient safety and reduce the error in the healthcare. “Communicate with each other in a collaborative, responsive and responsible manner.” (Canadian Interprofessional Health Collaborative, 2010). My biggest strength though out the debate was time management and was the key to complete the project and reviewed before the due day. Planning has helped to went through all the tasks I need to finish the presentation during heavy load assignments and work. “Time Management People who manage their time effectively usually experience less stress because they feel morein control of their circumstances.” (Kozier., et al, 2018, P. 1448). |
| After I reviewed the feedback from my peer. She addressed some points that I did well and some for improvement. For example, the presentation was clear, organized, and useful for nursing practice.Area for improvement in the future debate include communication and more research. “Nursing research the systematic, objective investigation of phenomena (experiences, events, or circumstances) of importance to nursing, with the goal of improving practice” (Kozier., et al, 2018, P. 1508).It does match my own perception and as i stated previously that I need to improve my interprofessional communication skills. |
| This was the first time I do debates, and I believe that helped me to have a depth knowledge about the issue. Moreover, it also a good opportunity to increase my learning about the issues from different points of views. For next debate I need to use CNO code of conduct fourth principle “Nurses work respectfully with colleagues to best meet patients’ needs”. Improvement communication between the teamwork will lead to improve the healthcare system. “Ethical nurses are concerned about the well-being of nursing colleagues and therefore are respectful toward each other.” (CNO’s Practice Standard of Ethics, 2019 P.9). |
