A historical event that relates to current practice in the public health field was the cholera outbreak of 1854 in Europe. Dr. John Snow knew that the transmission of cholera was water but needed evidence. Once he broke the water pumpto reveal the transmission of cholera, it reinstated that if you had an idea to improve healthyou needed evidence. Florence Nightingale is like Dr. Snow because she is seen as the founder of modern nursing. Nursing has always been a field of constant patient care improvement; which makes Nightingale’s work, that triggered change in hospital environments and statistical approaches, provide a starting point on what can be improved upon.
