Rhetorical Analysis “Drug War Nightmare”
The March 26, 2012 article, “Drug War Nightmare: How We Created a Massive Racial Caste System in America” by Michelle Alexander, is a very insightful peace. Alexander skillfullyuses facts and historical events to make her case that a caste system exists in America; however, she falls short in her argument that “Black progress is a myth” (Alexander). It gives a lot of rational and enlightening information on the Racial Caste System, Jim Crow, drug-related incarceration, and how black people are not really making progress in the United States. THESISSUMMARY OF ARTICLE (WHAT IS THE WHOLE ARTICLE ABOUT?) Alexander describes the United States as a racial caste system and says that it has created a new Jim Crow era. This is a very perceptive piece, and is very misleading into an inspirational prospective that will the reader to believe that Alexander is about to go in a different direction with this article. Michelle Alexander goes into transition whit logos segment that have some alarming contents in the next few paragraphs. “There are more African American adults under correctional control today –in prison or jail, as of 2004 more African American men were disenfranchised (due to felon disenfranchisement laws) than 1870, a black child born today is less likely to be raised by both parents than a black child born during slavery.”[ CITATION Mic12 \l 1033 ]
