Mental health program for veterans with PTSD
Mental health program for veterans with PTSD
Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (or PTSD) is a prevalent mental illness, commonly occurring in military combat veterans. This work is set to develop a mental health program for veterans with PTSD. The program is an add-on to a career service which we provide rehabilitation counseling in the community setup. Informed by several counseling and clinical practice guidelines, the program is aimed at offering psychotherapy services that involve helping returned veterans with PTSD to restructure their dysfunctional mental reactions to combat into useful adaptive behaviors. We hypothesize that a significant number of the distressed veterans who will receive mental health care during this program will enhance their knowledge about PTSD and show improvement in symptoms. Below, we give information and process used to guide our program: planning, organization/implementation, evaluation, and needs of people fromdiverse populations. PlanningDuring the admission process of military combat veterans into our residential community-based mental rehabilitation treatment program, they will be administered to various assessment instruments to verify their diagnostic status and functioning prior to the treatment. These assessments will be conducted by a mental health professional with extensive training and qualified supervision skills in administering psychological examinations (cite). Therefore, several instruments available to facilitate diagnoses and assessment of PTSD would include diagnostic instruments, trauma and symptom severity scales, and screening tools. For example, Posttraumatic Diagnostic Scale, as well as Clinician-Administered PTSD Scale will be available as self-report screening instruments. A 4-item Primary Care PTSD Screen will be another brief screening instrument. The Diagnostic Interview Schedule for DSM-IV (or DIS-IV), the MENTAL HEALTH PROGRAM FOR VETERANS WITH PTSD 3 Composite International Diagnostic Interview (CIDI), and the Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-IV (SCID), all will be used prior to the commencement of the program’s sessions. In this regard, computers and related software will be used to enter and store screening, diagnostic, and therapy information of our clients. For the labor market information, the resources we will have available would include printed handouts, articles, and booklets. Electronic health-based materials, including Internet information and therapy information involving text messaging, live chat, and/or e-mail will be made available.
