Family Characteristics That Contribute to Potential Dysfunctional Health Patterns
Family Characteristics That Contribute to Potential Dysfunctional Health Patterns
Introduction
Studies show that strong families influence individual health, but the fundamental importance of family that affects the health of the population is unknown. Since the year 1977, when it was published, George Engel’s model has provided national support for family medicine and other primary care needs. The main aim of the contribution of cognitive-behavioral was to emphasize awareness to everyone in a spectrum of hierarchies from the biological to the societal and the role that each organization plays in determining health results. Much research made by both family and society influences health. The primary sources that influence health from family levels are; genetics, a shared physical environment, and a shared social environment. This paper is aimed at discussing family characteristics that contribute to potential or actual health dysfunctional health patterns (Ferrer et al., 2005)
Marriage
Marriage is one of the main ways that family is affected positively by health impacts through family social support and good social relations that are found in close families. This has led to the decreased likelihood of the emergence of chronic diseases, disability, and mortality; however, not all family relations have positive results on health. Evidence of poor relations is increasing that can cause harm to physical and mental health, which means people in unhappy relations develop worse physical and mental health than unmarried people, marriages that have poor decision making people, marriages and unequal powers division are highly affected by depression for both partners, therefore, being raised in a violent home, and an abandoned home can also lead to poor health and development (Unite for Sight, 2019)
Strict Controlling Parents
In a family, there are either one or both of the parents that have a history of controlling Parten. They either refuse to give their children space to flourish or even fail to give them space to be advanced. This occurs when they refuse the children to make the right decision or choose for themselves at this age. Parents are always attracted by unexplained horror and reject any choice of their children or any decision made for themselves. This makes the children feel irritated and lack the power to think and make their own appropriate decisions (Ba & Ba, n.d.)
Finances
Families that have been in a poor financial situation put extra pressure on the mental health of the adults in the family, and the pressure turns to toxic stress and results in more harmful behaviors among the family members immediately the family starts facing issues concerning money parents get anxious leading to the development of cracks in the family anatomy, therefore, causing fights and lack of peace.
Overly Religious Beliefs Systems
According to (Unite for Sight, 2019), families that have strong religious beliefs and no time for conversation, discussions, or clarification can lead to parents imposing the same set of myths on their children. They may become strict without any valid motive or purely on the foundation of their elementary opinion leading to dysfunctionality.
Substance Abuse
When any family member is affected by drugs and alcohol abuse, the stress that comes from it results in dysfunctional relations and unhealthy management methods such as denial, diversion, and emotional cancellation. Drug, and substance abuse can also cause shifts in the roles of each family member that are within the household this causes behaviors such as enabling. as drug and substance abuse progress the substance abuser finds self-distraction action becoming a focal point of house fights and disagreement, children that grow up in such a household frequently go on to conserve the cycle of addiction (Lindsay, 2021)
Authority
Authority is also another cause of dysfunctional families. Parents may get pushy, hostile, commanding, and tyrannical in their behavior. This will lead to overprotective and hate among family members.
Conclusion
From the discussion, families that have members who are affected by drug and substance abuse can lead to unhealthy relations and poor management methods such as denial and emotional cancellation, and some behaviors are commonly observed in patients that have dysfunctional health patterns, including; most of them have a bad image of themselves and low self-esteem others find it difficult to form healthy adult relationships. Once one has identified that they come from a dysfunctional family, they should acknowledge and recognize behaviors and find methods to deal with them.
