Being a good leader is essential for the success of any DNP in the workplace. Good leadership involves having an effective leadership style that enables one to communicate with other stakeholders at the workplace. As a DNP, I would practice a congruent leadership style in the workplace in managing transitions due to how efficient it is. Congruent leadership style requires leaders to make decisions based on their beliefs and values. Practicing congruent leadership emphasizes the current stance of the leader. As a result, congruent leaders are good motivators to their staff and are organized.
Additionally, congruent leaders build good relationships within the workplace due to effective communication. Managing transitions in the workplace as a DNP involves understanding the reason for the change, assessing the expected reaction from staff members, and choosing the correct implementation strategies to ensure a smooth transition. A congruent leadership style allows me to be clinically competent to make the right decisions.
Organizational culture determines how staff conducts day-to-day activities. Cultivating a culture that supports innovation is done by prioritizing the promotion of new ideas in the workplace. Promoting new ideas involves both the management and other employees. Loving new ideas is a must for creating an innovative organization. Therefore, I would constantly implement new ideas that benefit the organization and incorporate ideas from other staff members. Being enthusiastic about innovations inspires everyone at the workplace to come up with new ideas and strategies.
Healthcare workplaces often contain driving and restraining forces that impact day-to-day activities. Effective service delivery requires a good balance of forces. In my work environment, driving forces such as teamwork and excellent leadership play a huge role in the success of tasks. Additionally, the workplace is well organized and ensures skill enhancement for its staff to guarantee better service delivery. However, bad health care providers’ personal characteristics and occasional breaches of the ethics code of conduct are restraining forces that negatively impact service delivery. Given my capstone, I would help create a work environment that supports innovation by allowing employees more freedom to create. Organizational politics red tape inhibits employees’ creative process. Therefore I would advocate for implementation to spare time for employees to pursue various innovations while finding ways to fund innovative ideas to completion, especially from the management.
