Literature Review-Effects of Caffeine on Male and Female Athletes

Caffeine is the most common ergogenic aids with proven effects on human performance. This article analyzes and compares the effects of caffeine ingestion between male and female athletes. The systematic review focused on different reactions between males and females to the same caffeine intake when aerobic, anaerobic, or protocol-induced fatigue (Juan, 2019). The stimulating effects of caffeine in male and female athletes are different because of hormonal differences. Also, the use of oral contraceptives affects the breakdown of caffeine by prolonging its half-life and delaying the reactions in the humanoid body. The study’s objective was to identify diverse reactions between the genders to the similar caffeine intake dependent on the nature of the exercise.

The article identifies the methods used by the authors to arrive at the effects of caffeine intake by male and female athletes. The search strategy method was used to determine the research previously done about the impact of caffeine intake on male and female athletes (Juan, 2019). The authors used inclusion and exclusion principles to identify studies appropriate for addition in the systemic review. Study selection was used where the titles and abstracts of publications were screened for full-text review and cross-referenced to detect duplicate—data extraction, which extraction of information from the study samples was also used. The authors used the quality assessment and risk of bias method to determine the shortcomings of the concluded research to achieve reliable assumptions.

In conclusion, there are effects associated with caffeine use by male and female athletes. Nonetheless, the differences between genders are obvious in body composition and hormonal body operation, resulting in mixed performance results for the equivalent caffeine intake in menfolks and females
