GOVT Policy Letter to Texas Official

Date

The Honorable Philip Cortez,

Texas House of Representatives

P.O. Box 2910

Austin, TX 78768

Dear Representative Cortez,

As it is, abortion is a sensitive area of concern in Texas. By 2021, September 1st, abortion was declared illegal in Texas as long as a fetal heartbeat. Citizens can only contravene this law if the objective of the abortion practice is solely to save the mother’s life. When there is a detectable heartbeat, the Heartbeat act of Texas is put in place. This act firmly forbids abortion. For this reason, I would like to plead with you to revisit this policy which puts many young women in a tight spot as they have to live by the set rule no matter the consequences which might affect them for the rest of their lives.

There are several reasons why I besiege you to oppose this policy and revise it so that it becomes inclusive. Many unwanted pregnancies happen. For that reason, girls and young women are forced to the pregnancies to term because they cannot have an abortion. It is a decision that, in most cases, ends up distorting their lives because some of them do not realize they are pregnant until it is too late. Some young women conceive through rape, and there are too young to raise a child. Yet others are not ready to give up their babies for adoption yet still have to go to school, so they end up leaving their parents in charge of the kids.

Previously, it was allowed up to six weeks after fertilization. However, the time set of six weeks is earlier than most women get to know that they are pregnant. Therefore this puts them in a place where they have to go ahead and the baby or pursue other means like legal if they must procure the abortion. The bill does not exclude cases of pregnancies resulting from incest or rape. The more reason why I feel this policy needs to be revisited.
