Is Social Media Usage helpful in creating and enhancing relationships?
In recent years, social media has been used by a large number of population worldwide. It makes a change to events taking place globally. Human beings find themselves realizing one another through social media platforms. Organizations develop and perform extremely well through social media (Tajudeen et al., 2018). Change in communication and relationship among the members is enhanced favorably. Platforms used by social media have been generated comprehensively due to improved network connectivity globally and the digital system of performing work. Furthermore, new features related to media are created daily to correspond with a swift method of doing and accomplishing duties on time. Several people in third-world countries reach one another through open media communication through being friends on social media platforms. Social media being helpful or unhelpful in relationships creation and enhancement brings a lot of dilemmas in choosing one side to support since it includes the researcher’s biases. However, social media may be helpful provided that it has a lot of merits than the opposite side.
Argument that Social Media Usage helps create and enhance relationships.
Several studies have been made to support and ascertain that social media realizes its usefulness in bringing people to know each other. Different scholars from different backgrounds express their views and knowledge concerning how it enhances relationships. Their arguments have been made with how they have researched human beings’ spent time on media platforms. Some observed results have been made below:
Premise 1: Marketing online through social media platforms about lifestyle branding influences public relationships among many audiences who perform the same work by using different websites found on social media (Glucksman, 2017).
Premise 2: Personal relationships are created and enhanced by gaining information and acquiring knowledge through cookies to facilitate the tailoring of advertisements with an enhancement of one’s services (Nisar et al., 2019).
Premise 3: Social Media helps people who recognize and identify one another, either they were both classmates or met on similar vacations, form group in one of the social media platforms whom they invite more colleagues to join, therefore enhancing their relationships via discussing various issues concerning the objectives of the group.
Conclusion: Social media is beneficial in ensuring people meet via online websites and applications to develop solutions to problems affecting their group; therefore, relationships are enhanced.
Argument that social media usage is unhelpful in creating and enhancing relationships
On the other hand, few studies have been made concerning the use of social media as it is limited to a very lower population who does not benefit from social media. Different scholars have considered social media unhelpful because not all human beings join and register themselves on platforms for the same purpose. Some have negative intentions hence resisting the development of relationships among members of media. Some of the arguments made include:
Premise 1: People tend to sign up for media apps to make popularity about their evil duties; for instance, ways to commit adultery as their theme lowers the bond and relationship with media viewers.
Premise 2: Certain media groups have negative objectives in conducting and initiating the group since they involve students continuing with their education to engage in bad habits at school, which lowers their chances of performing well in academics.
Premise 3: Relationships between close friends is halted by advertisements made on social media that one of them indulged in a rape case, which forces colleague friend to stop their talks anymore since they have realized their true habit.
Conclusion: Creation and enhancement of relationships are unhelpful since it may recruit people with good characters to have friendships with colleagues who may have negative objectives.
Analysis of the Arguments
Premises illustrated on both sides explain comprehensively and support each of the sides according to how it views the performance of social media in whether to enhance relationships or destructs. Notably, each side tries to discuss in detail why it chooses to choose one of the sides. Premises claim much in supporting an argument since they purposely do so to conclude. Each side appears to have well-supported premises. Though, their conclusions have different and opposing points. Therefore, there is a necessity to analyze and interpret the most likely one.
Researcher bias has been brought into consideration since scholars supporting each of the sides tend to research deeply. They come up with reasonable factors which enable them to explain the validity of their point. The situation prompts students to have difficulty on which way to go as relationships in social media are concerned. For example, a scholar who identifies social media as helping enhance relationships includes a social media user who has benefited from using the platforms to teach the audience how it creates relationships. On the other hand, Opposing researchers find a social media user who broke with their friends due to social media relationship break-up. They never made the goals they had put in place. For example, the treasurer chose to go away with the group’s capital unidentified which they could use to improve the organization. Therefore, the bias arises.
Evaluating which side is stronger can be a difficult task since both arguments discuss their side extensively using supported premises. A member of social media who has been using various platforms for different purposes may know which side to lie on. New social media users find it hard to realize which position to dwell on since they are not well conversant with the type of friends and legitimate groups to join. In my view, social media helps create and enhance relationships than the other.
Presentation of My Argument
Considering my evaluation and my research with enough knowledge and skills, I now present personal reasoning concerning the usefulness of social media as relationships is concerned.
Premise 1: Social media helps create relationships by identifying familiar colleagues in online platforms whom one greets and interacts well with them, thus bringing about powerful and respected relationships.
Premise 2: Enhancement of relationships among the media applications is enormous; for instance, students studying at the same institution reach themselves through online conversations, which brings about adequate relationships.
Premise 3: Media helps bring closer people whose background is too far to reach them physically by frequent chats and messages via social media, therefore creating and enhancing strong relationships despite their current places of residence.
Premise 4: Platforms related to media can involve a huge population using the platforms at all periods, increasing the chances of allowing several people to converse with one another at any time, enhancing relationships.
Conclusion: Social media platforms such as Facebook, WhatsApp, Twitter, and Instagram help ensure relationships among their members are created and enhanced.
Response to Objection of the Argument
Even though some scholarly research accompanies my argument, some potential objections try to deny it. The potential objection is that social media is useless in creating and enhancing relationships since unrecognized personnel sends strange messages to people threatening them that their lives are in danger. Those people tend to insist on money so that they can redeem safety for the message receiver. The situation creates a lot of tension and fear for the receiver. People who receive those messages tend to quit online websites.
Response to the objection requires a sort of meta-studies to enable finding a response since it’s difficult to identify exactly the feedback regarding the same. Scholars and the platforms’ owners came up with efficient ways to recognize and report the incident to the officials concerned with such cases. Identified personnel to have performed and threatened online users face the law. They are required to answer several questions in the court of law. Such people are said to be an example to those who might be conducting the same evils.
Media platforms have an agreement with the government with strict policies governing the usability of social media applications (Tajudeen et al., 2018). Officials who represent those applications are required to write a report with enough evidence concerning the terms and conditions to which they agreed. Those users who never used the applications well agreed to the terms and conditions before signing up for those platforms.
Conclusion
In conclusion, social media usage is beneficial in creating and enhancing relationships among several people worldwide. Various arguments related to whether it is helpful or not have raised a lot of concern to many scholars as studies they make create room for discussion. Arguments supported by evidence from both sides have made it difficult to choose which side to rely on. It has brought about researcher’s biases which need to be considered essential since the statements made by those scholars are contrasting.
I choose to explain the validity of the one side which supports social media to be helpful. This is because larger population worldwide gains benefit from social platforms than those who look at the platforms as useless. A larger percentage of those people prefer the websites since some become celebrities by participating in online video presentations. However, some objections deny that social media is helpful. The law is responsible for those who conduct themselves negatively on media platforms.
