Environmental Stress
Stress occurs when the human body cannot cope with a situation due to specific problems or events that cause psychological, emotional, and physical strain. In this case, environmental stress is how the body responds to a cognitive, behavioral, and emotional environmental stressor. These environmental stressors include noise, crowding, track traffic, among other factors. Stress can affect the digestive system and lead to stomach aches, diarrhea, and constipation. It also leads to increased breathing, rush hormones, and increased heart rate, which can, in turn, cause these digestive issues. Stress can also lead to an increase in stomach acid, which will, in turn, lead to heartburn and the risk of ulcers. (Environmental Health Project). The movement of food is also affected, leading to diarrhea and constipation. Stress weakens the immune system. Stress will help stimulate the immune system, which in turn helps heal infections and wounds. When this happens regularly and in the long run, stress hormones harm your immunity by weakening its response to body invaders. In this case, the body is more vulnerable to infections and diseases (Stress Effects on the Body). It can also affect the time the body takes to recover from illnesses and injury.
The body’s physical systems significantly impact the body’s neural, psychological, and physical development. Neural development is responsible for the proper functioning of the brain from childhood. As a child grows, neural connections develop in the brain. These help in the development of different abilities such as emotions, movement, and language. Stress leads to poor development of a child’s brain that in turn affects the person until adulthood. People are likely to become less friendly due to the disruption of synapse regulation. The brain connections are built on childhood experiences and determine the lifetime of an individual. A person’s psychology is affected by stress leading to sleep disturbances, digestive issues, and headaches. It also leads to depression, anxiety, confusion, and emotional strain. Stress can have devastating effects on an individual’s physical development, leading to obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and other chronic illnesses (National Academies Press). That occurs due to the body’s adjustments as it reacts to a situation, and if this happens frequently can lead to these chronic illnesses.
