Smith
Smith described these two disciplines, community with others and solitude, as the two key anchors to keep our lives on track when faced with difficulties. In our day-to-day activities, we face challenging situations, whether at work, school, or home. We need these two to help us overcome such problems. Solitude is the aspect of creating a spiritual relationship with God. The book of Genesis reminds us that God did not make man alone. Therefore, building a spiritual connection with the community is essential. However, we need to create this relationship with God first, for he is the one who helps us see things as they are. Smith reminds me that having a few friends around me is essential. People with whom you can share your problems and help guide you towards the light that is God. For very few friends are willing to be this true with you. However, to make the choices we need by our side, we need first to have solitude with God. The two anchors should start by first creating a relationship with God, then the other will follow. The book of proverbs 3:5 reminds us that we should trust God with our hearts and not rely on our insights. To build strong relationships with our communities, we should first create a relationship with God.
In our daily lives, we need God’s word to overcome the storms in our lives. We should trust in him and only him. Solitude with God is a matter of creating personal time and talk to God through prayer. Even Jesus had to leave his disciples and pray to God to give him strength. All God seeks Is to bless us to help others in the community see the light. Seeking a spiritual relationship with God helps us build strong communities and understand who our friends are. That helps us overcome challenges and difficulties in our lives. In our daily lives, we should allow God to guide us in every decision we make, helping us develop more spiritual friends. The assignment requires to quote one verse of encouragement that gives the importance of one of these anchors. Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him, and he will act. (Psalms 37:6, Holy Bible, RSV). That will encourage people always to put their trust in God when faced with difficulties.
Part 2
Being a student can present the best experiences in one’s life. You get to interact with new faces, make friends and learn new things every day. At CCU, I have acquired many skills and knowledge that will help me in my career going forward. I have also had many assumptions and beliefs towards education which have changed over my course of being here. In this reflection paper, I am going to discuss my experiences being a student at CCU. I will also look into the beliefs and assumptions I have had about education and going to school. Lastly, I will discuss what I have learned and how it will help me become a more successful student.
In the past five weeks being part of CCU, I have acquired many experiences which I will not forget. For instance, memories I have shared with my colleagues in class. Experiences we had working on projects and assignments together. We have had fun too outside class having a chat with a friend about that day’s lecture. Sharing individual memories about stuff we have gone through in life. All these experiences have helped me develop new friends and colleagues and made my time at school fun.
I have always had many assumptions about education and going to school. I had beliefs that disagreement in class is a bad thing. I have always assumed that students should agree with their course teachers about specific outcomes. However, in the past five weeks, I have learned that disagreement is still part of the learning conversation. Students will always disagree and have debates about specific topics. Disagreement is part of acquiring knowledge about things you did not know. Over the past five weeks, CCU has helped me change that part of my assumptions.
Another assumption I have always made is that intelligence is a fixed trait. I have always assumed that intelligent students will still be brilliant and that those not academically competent cannot be. However, my time here has taught me that no situation is fixed, and intelligence is developed rather than a fixed trait. When students have the right mindset, anybody can be as intelligent as any other person.
I have learned the impact of working with others, and I believe this will help me build my teamwork skills. CCU has taught me how to interact with my fellow students and teachers on assignments and other school activities. That has, in turn, helped me create a good connection with the other students. In the future, I will have to use these skills in various projects and activities. I now understand the importance of teamwork and sharing skills and knowledge in getting things done.
In CCU, I have acquired time management skills, which I believe will make me a successful student. Throughout my experiences here, I have learned that time is of the essence. Planning your time right, doing your assignments ad other activities on time is as important as anything else. I have learned how to schedule and plan my activities not to waste time on unnecessary things. I believe this will help me become a successful student in the future.
In conclusion, the past five weeks have helped me develop much as a student. The experiences I have had in that time have been fun; I have created friends and learned a lot from them. CCU has helped me eradicate some of the assumptions I had about education and school. For instance, the ability to encourage disagreements. I have learned a lot in the process, which I believe will help me become a successful student. I have learned that teamwork and time management are essential skills for a student. I think my experience at CCU will help me become a better student.
