Evolution of the Telephone
The history of mobile phones can be traced way back to about 1908 when the United States Patent was delivered in Kentucky for the first wireless telephone. Mobile phones appear to have been invented basically as early as the 1940s when AT&T working engineers developed the cells for mobile phone early base stations (Arth et al., 2015). The initial mobile phones were not mobile phones at all but two-way radios, which allowed people such as taxi drivers and emergency services to make communications. Rather than depending on early base stations with distinct cells. Simultaneously, the signal typically passed from a particular cell to the other; the initial mobile phone networks involved a single but a mighty base station that covered a much extensive area (Arth et al., 2015). For instance, in April 1973, Motorola was the first company to produce the first mobile phone, which was handheld massively. Such first mobile phones have often been referred to as 0G mobile phones, or the Zero Generation mobile phones. However, due to rapid and constant technological changes, most phones today rely on either 3G or 4G mobile technologies and purported 5G, which is not yet common in the market (Agar, 2013). For example, mobile phones such as smartphones (iPhone, Oppo, etc.) currently inseparable human companions are relatively new use.
Effect of Telephone Evolution/Changes to Human Lives
On the positive influences of cell phone possession, about 65 percent of cell owners suggest that mobile phones make it easier to keep in touch with the people they normally care about. Only 6 percent claim that their cell phone has never improved their networks with their people. On the other hand, cell phone possession, approximately one in five cell holders, suggest that their cell phones make it somewhat tougher to forget about some work at home or over the weekends; to offer people their necessary and undivided attention, or even to focus on a particular task without distraction. Besides, most cell phone owners claim that their cell phones have had no influence at all in their daily lives in any such negative ways.
Reflection on the Readings
In a modern world society of ever-changing technology, it is important to look at the moral and philosophical implications of technological developments and the impact on human behavior in contemporary society. Ramey (2017) believes that technology’s modern life effects have been immeasurable since people use technology in diverse ways. The way they implement several technologies ends up hurting their lives or the society they live in. For instance, increased loneliness has been caused by social isolation. People spend most of their time playing video games and learning how to apply the latest modern technologies by using social networks while neglecting their real lives. Thus, technology has completely replaced human old ways of interaction (Ramey, 2017). However, it is a human responsibility to apply technology to improve their lives and preserve society and the environment.
According to the article, Positive Effects of Technology on Society, technology tends to run in the society veins an integral part of its daily life since it has definitely benefited the society. Technology brings luxury to a common man’s life. The automation which the technology brings about has significantly saved people’s efforts and time to a larger extent. The fast-changing technology cumulatively has motivated developments in several fields while improving the high quality of human life. However, DeLoatch (2015) says humans today live in a very high technological world fashioned with high technological classrooms. The people have been embracing the benefits of utilizing iPads in classrooms and integrating tweets in presentations while teaching the students while also using smart TVs (DeLoatch, 2015). Thus, there are several benefits of integrating technology in teaching, including diversity to class lessons, increased student interaction, and bringing new knowledge and perspectives to the classroom. However, there are also negative effects that result from wrong use or overusing the technology, leading to serious and long-standing consequences (DeLoatch, 2015). In making the best out of technological tools in the classroom, parents and teachers should recognize the downsides of technology and try their best to evade them.
The use of technology can affect the brain of a child. For instance, over a third of kids less than 2 years are using mobile media, and the number has been increasing as kids’ age, with 95 percent of teens ranging between 12-17 spend their time online (DeLoatch, 2015). However, children often using search engines to become very decent at searching for information but never good at memorizing and may never have sufficient opportunities to apply their imagination or read and even think deeply about information materials. Improper application of technology has exposed children to other risks. For instance, in about 82 percent of cyberbullying, including online sex offenses against children, most sex criminals use social networking flatworms to receive information on the victims (DeLoatch, 2015). Cyberbullying is also rampant with technology as a quarter of the teenagers suggest they have experienced bullying either through text or over the Internet. Besides, 24 percent of the teenagers within 14 -17 years have contributed to stripped sexting leading to psychological torture.
Technological Advancement Can Occur Too Rapidly and Exceed A Society’s Ability to Cope and Adjust To the Changes
Modern society has an overwhelming number of diverse technological gadgets and mechanical devices at disposal, from iPhones to airplanes. While such advancements bring about new phases of health, employment, enjoyment, freedom, there are several disadvantages to the society which is completely dependent upon technology. Technology should be advancing while being well-integrated into the daily human lives to realize its extent; otherwise, things will fall apart. For instance, today’s youth has been exposed to digital technology to some degree, which has never been previously seen. Thus, modern technology for youth has become an invisible enemy but still an integral part of their youthful lives. Hence as technological literacy has been almost a requirement for today’s employment, the digital lifestyle can often be beneficial. Otherwise, it will remain a double-edged sword in the current society, mostly made up of youth.
Suggested Policy Changes To Moderate the Impact of Technological Advances
Enacting policies that promote public inductions to ensure they understand their potentials impacts others through their interaction with technology both in technology innovation or application. Enhancing respect to the existing laws and rules concerning cyberspace as people do in their everyday life including intellectual property rights
