Why Men Can Be Late and You Can’t

Women suffer more when work the deadline is approaching work extends around the clock. They fall ill and lose sleep. The issue tends to increase, particularly for working mothers. A working mother will have to arrive at the workplace since she will again leave earlier; therefore, she compensates for leaving earlier (Wolfe, 2018). A working mother perceives herself negatively for spending a lot of time away from her family.

When a female worker leaves before the accepted time, her workmates often are likely off to pick her children from school. When a male worker clocks out early, his colleagues think he has gone to meet potential clients. On the other hand, managers are more probably to give men traveling assignments, thinking that women are supposed to take care of their families.

Such assumptions make women work extra hard and report to work earlier than males to be at par. This also explains why they are promoted to the next level less than males in every profession. They have these strong cultural perceptions they try to embrace. Also, the worst judgment a female is afraid of is that they are not a good parent.  Such judgment on women is painful for women than men in professional careers.

How to Negotiate with Tact and Testosterone

Testosterone and cortisol levels affect women at the negotiation table in the workplace.  Testosterone refers to a hormone that signal dominance, while cortisol production is a sign of stress. Fluctuation in hormones level after individual posing styles increase or decrease one’s view of power. Women should also engage in high-powered poses and shun away from low-power poses in the workplace (McDermott, 2017). Engaging in high-powered poses increases their testosterone hormone and reduces cortisol home, which is a sign of dominance, and they can negotiate with tact at the negotiation table.

Engaging in high power poses can assist women who have a view of lower status or power to engage in negotiation with tact in job interviews and workplace meetings. Power posing to enhance performance in the workplace can give women the potential to act beyond their normal position and hopefully result in negotiation tactics and negotiating skills, interview performance, and success in the workplace that require confidence authority. High testosterone implies that one is good at making deals. It can make women more aggressive.  It is essential, especially in one-time negotiations.  Testosterone is often associated with strength; women with high testosterone are more sensitive in the workplace than those with less testosterone. They tend to care more about respect. Respect is always translated to cash in the business or corporate world.

What Your Body Language Says About You

It does not take a word, sometimes sends a message clear and loud. It is essential to know whether body language skews workmate perceptions. It is necessary to identify if one’s positions, gestures, and expression unraveling feelings will rather keep unraveled (McDermott, 2017). For instance, when one daydreams about lunch in the workplace, one can lick lips. It implies that he is hungry; however, licking lips in front of a conversation partner can be interpreted as a sexual attraction unethical in the workplace.

Besides, first impressions and handshakes intertwine. A firm and excellent grip with a workmates can mean one is confident and outgoing in work place. A weak and limp grip sets one as uncertain and lacks confidence in the workplace. The time taken to hold one matter also has a meaning: if one drops the hand out too fast, it can imply shyness.  Lastly, there is a reason why some people mention the term “in a slump” when things are not okay.  Slouching shoulders tend to make a person feel sad and hold onto stress for a long time reducing her productivity in the workplace. Good posture can assist women in workplace to feel positive and optimistic and come across as focused and confident resulting in productivity.

How to Project Confidence Consistently

Women who are sure and confident of their potentials have a high chance of succeeding in workplace than those lacking confidence, even though those that lack confidence can seem more industrious, talented, and competent.  There is a big problem for coming up as sure and confident, particularly in the workplace.  Opinions of confident women in workplace are likely to be considered even if they are not valid. This notion is also applicable to men.  When a woman stays true to herself, she does not project confidence through False Self, but through needs, ideas, goals, and values.

Women are supposed to be assertive and not bully in workplace. There is a big difference between aggression, non-assertion, and assertion.  Knowing such differences can assist a female colleague in treating others well and still remaining true to herself. The capability to show one point of view assertively can be extended to an outer presentation and inner confidence that commands others’ respect (Pease, 2018). Furthermore, it is essential to know one’s values and express them to others.  Understanding one’s values can be a great source of inner satisfaction and strength, whether or not she portrays them directly.
