Students will be expected to explore all aspects of the approach they have chosen for the final project. This will include the historical context, definition of the approach, the etiology of disease, the principles and philosophies, and any other aspects that may be pertinent in exploring the topic more fully. However, students may choose the way they want to approach their topic. You may choose to compare and contrast, delve deeper into the historical context of the topic, or focusing more on the specific philosophies within the approach.
The first part of the project is the topic proposal. The purpose of this assignment is for the student to pick a non-Western medicine approach to explore in-depth for their final paper. The project proposal will consist of a short paragraph explaining to the reader the reasons why you have chosen this perspective, along with 5 citations of sources you may be interesting in using for your project. Students will be asked to focus on a particular part of the perspective they have chosen, for example; traditional Chinese medicine, Ayurveda, Shamanic healing, or other approaches. Students will be expected to have a submitted proposal by the deadline and must be approved prior to starting on the rough draft. If a student has not received an approved proposal, further parts of the project will not be accepted for a grade. You must have an approved proposal prior to starting on the latter parts of the project, or it may negatively impact your future drafts of the project. After your proposal has been approved, you may start doing further research on the topic, and start working on your rough draft.
Your proposal will need to be at least half a page to a page long (headers do not count), standard formatting requirements from your written assignment guidelines. It may also go more than a page, but keep in mind it is still a proposal, and will need to be approved first as you continue to work on your project.
