7 Tips on How to Write an Analytical Essay

Definition of Analytical Writing

Analytical writing is writing that evaluates, explains, and sometimes criticizes something. Analytical essays are the best way for you to prove your professor that you can think critically about a subject. Analyze all aspects of what you are discussing so they can get an accurate picture of what you are trying to say in the essay. The most important thing in writing any type of paper is making sure that it flows smoothly from point A to point B with no mistakes or awkwardness anywhere in between.

Planning Analytical Essay

Note that analytical pieces usually follow this format: thesis statement, topic sentences, explanation/development of each idea using examples, quotes, paraphrasing etc., counterarguments, closing. Analytical papers usually have a minimum of five paragraphs and a maximum of eight so try not to go any longer than necessary! However, if you feel the need to add more points with the use of more examples, quotes or cited material then do that! It’s better for your assignment to be too long than too short! Try to remember that when planning out your Analytical piece.

What is the Purpose of Analytical essay?

Analytical essays are meant to break down an issue, topic or event into many different parts. Analyzing how you present information will help get an idea of what other pieces should be included in your Analytical piece. Analytical writing is not just rewording what someone else has already said.  Analyze how you can put each idea into your own words so the reader gets the full effect of what you are trying to put across.

Essential Tips to Write an Excellent Analytical Essay

  1. Analyze how you present your information in an essay and brainstorm ideas on what to include in each paragraph before getting started. Remember that this paper will have a huge impact on your final grade so be prepared to put some time into it.
  2. Arrange your analytical essay in paragraphs. Try to include 1 or 2 examples in every paragraph that best support your thesis while backing up any claims with solid evidence from reputable sources!
  3. Ensure you have 5-8 paragraphs, each elaborating on a different idea related to your overall main point. Analyze how you can put each idea into your own words so the reader gets the full effect of what you are trying to put across.
  4. Develop clear topic sentences. All the main body paragraphs have to start with a topic sentence that both presents the topic of the particular paragraph, and connects it to your main thesis.
  5. Use interesting quotes, good examples or anything else that can improve upon your work. If something seems dull or boring then find ways to spice it up using different words and sentence structures!
  6. Analyze for yourself and include your own personal opinions on the matter rather than simply presenting someone else’s point of view!
  7. Include contrasting opinions. You can make an argument resilient by conceding another standpoint. Then, refute that argument with additional evidence and reasoning.

Example of Analytical Essay

Analytical Essay on Covid-19

A virus that has recently become much more prevalent is the Corona Virus. There are several strains of this virus, with different effects on the people it infects. Coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19) is caused by the Corona Virus, and is a disease that gives its host a very high body temperature. It also causes the host to have a high fever as well as flu-like symptoms after said fever. In some cases, those who are suffering from COVID-19 can even become delusional and occasionally suffer from hallucinations. These viruses affect people all over the world; however, they most notably affect those living in developing countries. Covid-19 is life threatening and causes serious health problems for its hosts.

The coronavirus family of viruses contains more than 30 identified strains. These viruses are responsible for many common diseases found in humans, such as the common cold. A major coronavirus disease is Middle Eastern Respiratory Syndrome (MERS). MERS was first reported in Saudi Arabia in 2012 and has since spread to more than 16 countries. From September 1, 2014 to mid-November16, 2015 there were 345 laboratory-confirmed cases of MERS worldwide with 182 deaths (CFR). The first documented case of MERS death on U.S soil was recorded on August 2, 2016 after a traveler returned from Saudi Arabia and became ill while visiting Indiana (CDC). While this virus does not typically cause severe health problems it can be deadly if left untreated.

The actual origin and passage history of the virus are unknown, but the symptoms of the virus and its genetic makeup allude to it originating in bats, possibly Asia (CDC). The main animal vector for the viruses are bat species native to Asia. These bat species are found in both temperate and tropical areas all over Asia. Peri-domestic animals, such as cats, rabbits, minks, ferrets are also reservoirs for coronavirus disease (Gamble 896). One strain that has been passed on through human contact is CHORI-224B. CHORI-224B was first documented in California after a group of people were infected with this coronavirus after working with animals that carried the virus.

Infection from this virus typically occurs by contact with respiratory secretions from the infected person or animal that is carrying the virus. Those who are at a higher risk for contracting this coronavirus disease are those that travel to countries where there is an active coronavirus disease outbreak, which includes most of Asia as well as some parts of Africa (CDC). With recent outbreaks in Saudi Arabia there is also now a risk for infection here in America, though the chance of being infected with Corona Virus Disease while living in America are fairly low.

The most common way for people to contract Corona Virus Disease is by coming into contact with an infected person’s respiratory secretions, either by breathing the same air or touching objects that have been contaminated with their saliva or mucus. It can also be contracted through consuming products that have been handled by an infected person without being cooked properly, even though it has not yet been confirmed if this was the case for the Corona Virus.

The most common treatment for people suffering from coronavirus disease is supportive care. People suffering from this virus are typically put in isolation until they no longer pose a threat to others. If they are still exhibiting symptoms of the virus they will be placed in respiratory isolation. Effective Covid-19 vaccines have also been critical in ending the Covid-19 pandemic. People have been encouraged to get vaccinated against Covid-19 to reduce the spread and risks of the diseases.

In summation, precautions should be taken before events such as concerts so that the risk of diseases being spread is eliminated completely. It would mean that the event would have to be postponed or cancelled, but it is better than hundreds of people contracting a deadly disease. Through supportive care, social distancing and sanitization, there is a possibility of reducing the risk of the disease.
