Differences in behavior between China and the West?
The entire human race is vulnerable to massive epidemics (pandemics) that have sickened and killed millions throughout history. For example, the so called “Spanish Flu” that probably started in US Army camps in 1917 (not in Spain) killed more people than the 15 million killed in World War I (1914-1917). Our present Covid-19 pandemic is killing many thousands around the world. Note that China, where the pandemic is believed to have started, has been successful in forcing its population to wear masks, stay indoors and close businesses where people meet and spread disease, leading to relatively low death rates. However, in the US and much of Europe, there has been strong resistance to masks and social distancing and even to vaccinations, leading to higher rates of infections and deaths. What cultural differences explain these differences in behavior between China and the West?
